As can be seen in the Joomla Extensions Directory, there are number of solutions for displaying a Google Map in a Joomla! Module. We offer two such modules and we are going to talk about one of these today.

Let's start with the other, which is easier. Our free Google Maps Module (JED Listing) offers very basic functionality, which is display a Google map through coordinates and a single pin on it. That's all it does. Nothing more or nothing less. You can download it for free from our web site (requires registration).

Now, our commercial (GPL) Google Maps Module (JED Listing) offers much more complex tasks and features. Let's prepare a short summary of all of the features and several regimes:

Regime Custom Markers – it allows you to enter unlimited number of items on the map:

  • Geocoding – Just enter the address and the module will geocode with the right coordinates (it works with the Google Geocode API);
  • Locale – manage the language in which the map is loaded;
  • CURL – the module works in two modes with or without CURL, based on your server;
  • Mode – Roadmap, Satellite, Hybrid, Terrain. It is up to you to decide;
  • Clustering – Group near pins on the map and ungroup on zoom;
  • Maximum Zoom on clustering – Select the value for zoom to enable the clustering;
  • Directions – Do you want the users to find out the fastest way to get to the pins you entered?
  • 4 icon colors plus easy option to add own icons;
  • Display information from extrafields in a pop over the pin;
  • Control the map width and height easily;
  • Add Panoramio, Weather, Clouds or Google Places with one click;
  • Monetize with Google AdSense in Map;
  • Use Colorizr to create an unique visual design for your map;

On top of that, the module works excellent with our Joomla Google Maps Plugin for K2, it can display maps for specific categories or specific items. Everything is under your control. Select if items from sub-categories to be displayed, to show "read more" link.
